Minimalism – a new fashion or a good way?

Minimalism in everyday life is a specific lifestyle that consists in striving for simplicity and modesty as much as possible, as well as limiting unnecessary things and responsibilities in our daily functioning. First of all, such a lifestyle allows for a significant ordering of many spheres of our daily functioning, which makes our life much simpler, and we significantly reduce the chaos in our lives. Living in chaos – surrounding yourself with countless things, taking on more and more responsibilities and obligations – it’s easy to get lost, forget about what is important. Slowly, in stages, we feel doubt, stress, a sense of insecurity, problems pile up, addictions appear … Living in constant tension and fear, it is difficult to enjoy life.

A few years ago, a great fashion for minimalism in interiors and lifestyle became popular, and the Internet is full of films in which, among others, celebrities show how white is at home, how little furniture they have and how they do without it. Minimalism is a road, and more bluntly and less philosophically speaking, minimalism is a tool. A tool for a good life, or for whatever purpose you can think of.  Fashion is not worth succumbing to. Fashion is for show and things for show are not for you. They are there for others to focus on you, and that is no longer modest. It is not about radicalism or an extreme approach to the subject, but about limiting your things to how much we really need. Minimalism introduced into various spheres of our life has many advantages leading to our positive attitude towards the world and people. Minimalism gives us space, and at the same time teaches us to distance ourselves not to get attached to material things. Therefore, it allows us to organize our life and make it simpler – it is a kind of getting rid of “unnecessary ballast”.  However, it is not enough to get rid of the excess items, sometimes it is worth giving up additional stimuli: too much music, computer, watching movies on Netflix or HBO all evening. In fact, it is always and everything about poverty that is through and through, not superficial. Be modest within yourself. Don’t be afraid to share what you have with people. Also, don’t be afraid to give something back in full.

Minimalism in fashion  Minimalism is one of the most distinctive styles in fashion. Although it is based on simplicity and economy, it is inspiring and stimulates creativity. Minimalism in our wardrobe can be described with the words: “less is more”. The fashion industry approaches it in two ways: as a philosophy based on the belief that the excess of things we have is responsible for chaos both in our wardrobes and in our heads.  Minimalism in fashion is also a style of dress, the mother of which is the chic, surprising and brilliant Gabrielle Coco Chanel. It was this Queen of Fashion who in the 1920s promoted the noble simplicity of forms and the economy of colors, which are still the prototype of new collections on the world’s catwalks of the world’s largest fashion houses. Since then, the minimalist style has not gone out of fashion, manifesting itself in many famous collections, even such as Dior’s iconic 1947 New Look. The trend for economical cuts and a color palette limited to the minimum was particularly popular in the 1990s, among others due to  Calvin Klein, who was a great supporter of the principle of “less is more”, offering women naked dresses without any accessories or outfits composed of jeans and a white T-shirt. Designers such as Calvin Klein, Martin Margiela or Donna Karan love simplicity above maximumism and subdued colors above a wide range of colors. The minimalist style of dress conquered catwalks and streets around the world for the first time.

Today, minimalist fashion is one of the most recognizable and the most influencing of fashionistas’ imaginations. This is evidenced not only by the collections of Max Mary, Jill Sander or the aforementioned Calvin Klein fashion house, but also by the styling of the stars (Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett). Fashion is changing, but some items of clothing remain irreplaceable. That is why Anja Rubik, who could have the most expensive outfits in her wardrobe, has a white shirt, black cigarillos and a perfectly fitted black jacket in her wardrobe. Such a set is a guarantee of properly developed minimalism.  One thing is most important in minimalism: essence. The essence of the matter counts. Reading is valuable – not having books. Take it analogically to anything else. Whatever you do – do it fully authentically, do it well, honestly and secretly – without applause, and then it becomes really valuable.  Then it just is. There is.
