Summer is almost over and fall is just around the corner. Therefore, I decided to organize my wardrobe.
A typical change from summer to autumn … and I thought to myself how many of us know how to take care of our things to extend their life?
It seems to me that we all unlearn fast fashion, we are getting rid of old habits.
Maybe it’s time to learn together how to make
to make the clothes durable? What do you say?
Buy high-quality clothes
First tip. Start with your buying habits. Invest in high-quality clothes. Thanks to this, you can be sure that they will last longer and thus you will enjoy your favorite T-shirt, jacket, etc. for longer.
Here are some ways to find high-quality clothing as you shop around for your next essentials.
Look for natural fabrics – linen, wool, cotton, hemp, cashmere, silk – that are stronger than plastics.
Put your hand under the shirt to see how transparent it is. If you have a really good eye, you can tell how tight the fibers are, which is another indicator of how durable your garment is.
Pay attention to the seams. If they are neat and tight, the garment is durable. If there are already loose threads, this may be a sign of poor quality that will not last more than a few washes.
Treat delicate fabrics gently and clean them with love.
Does your top have lace inserts? Is your skirt satin or silk? What about your wool sweater? Depending on the care label on your clothes, you can wash them at home instead of dry cleaning. Just remember, don’t be tempted to throw them into your regular laundry.
Invest in a good detergent for delicate fabrics that will clean your clothes without damaging the delicate fibers or causing them to lose their shape. These formulas are milder and can even be specially formulated for items made of wool or cashmere. You can use regular detergent for towels and sheets. However, make sure you have a special washing liquid for a dress or favorite T-shirt that you like to wear often. These are things that can be washed together. For delicate things, it is worth using special separate bags. How do you get even more protection with your favorite things? Easy! Just avoid the washing machine and hand wash.
Dry your clothes naturally.
Dryers are appearing in our homes more and more often. They are used most in America, much less in Italy or Australia. In Poland, the number of owners of dryers is growing every year. Hang your clothes to dry. This energy-saving tip will reduce your carbon footprint by 1,200 kilos a year. Thanks to this, you will enjoy the delicacy and durability of your clothes for longer.
Remember! The high temperature and tumble operation of dryers can shrink the fibers, damage the shape of the garment, and warp the elasticity.
Store clothing properly
Treat your clothes with love and they will reward you with good looks for many years.
The most important tip for properly storing your clothes is to start with clean clothes. Even if your clothes may not look dirty, clean them before changing your wardrobe and storing them for the next season. Any stains in clothes can attract pests or moisture. This can cause a musty smell when stored for many months.
Store clothes in a well-ventilated, cool and dry place. You will avoid the risk of moisture getting into the fibers of the garment. Use strong hangers and special bags to keep clothes like dresses and coats in shape. Things like: blouses and sweaters can be folded and stored in airtight containers to prevent the entry of pests, moisture. Hence damage to clothes.
