What do Cate Blanchett, Brad Pitt and Leonadro DiCaprio have in common? In addition to Hollywood fame and millions of fans around the world, everyone of them is actively working to protect the planet and a healthy lifestyle. We will also meet eco friendly stars in the Polish show business: Anna Dereszowska, Grażyna Wolszczak or Michał Piróg are leading figures in the country who do a lot to make life on Earth healthier for us, and at the same time that we – people – do not destroy their home, which is terrestrial globe. Ecology has become a popular trend among celebrities, but we hardly pay attention to their activity in this area. Hollywood is hearing more and more information about the next big names who are joining the fight for the health of our planet. Some make and promote eye-opening documentaries, others set up environmental organizations, and still others scream in climate and animal protests.
We connect the recognition of world-famous actors, musicians and fashion designers primarily with their work, often underestimating what they do for the society in the so-called “Free time” when they are not in front of the cameras or have no more rehearsals. Exprimere_te, creating in harmony with nature and care for the environment, will present you the achievements of world and Polish stars in eco activities.
Sting
British musician who without the shine of cameras has many significant ecological gestures in his CV. In addition to actively promoting and supporting such giants as the Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation or Amnesty International, Sting – who lives permanently in New York – created an organic farm in Tuscany, which produces honey, wine, Tuscan salami, olive oil, and vegetables and fruit. used for their production are not protected by pesticides. In addition, every Sting fan who buys a ticket to his concert – gets involved in the artist’s activities, who donate part of the income from the sale to the activities of environmental organizations.
Leonardo DiCaprio
This is a real “eco-hero” among red carpet celebrities. Leo, who is an actor and producer at the same time, founded his own foundation two decades ago (Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation), the activities of which continue to bring many benefits, engaging in humanitarian and environmental issues. The Foundation organizes, among others, campaigns for animal habitats, biodiversity, renewable energy, shaping public awareness of climate change and actions to save the oceans. In addition to working on a film set, DiCaprio also has a lot of classes in several international organizations – he is a board member of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Global Green USA, and the Council for the Protection of Natural Resources . In addition, Leo contributed to, and actually triggered, a global discussion between politicians, activists and scientists about the state of the environment. And he did it by using his talent: he was the producer of the documentary “The 11th Hour”.
James Cameron
A giant in the film industry and a man of many talents. James Cameron is most associated with such blockbuster productions as Titanic and Avatar, after the premiere, Cameron used the revenues from the film for the benefit of ecology and declared that he will use renewable energy in the production of sequels. Cameron is also involved in promoting construction
ecology and the protection of the oceans. Cameron is not silent – he speaks using his fame whenever he can and draws the attention of cinema fans to important social issues, such as the impact of agribusiness on climate change, deforestation, excessive use of water resources and carbon dioxide emissions.
Jack Johnson
One of the most notable contributions to the talented musician Jack Johnson is the launch of the Johnson Ohana Charitable campaign and the public charity “All At Once”, which promotes music, art, education and the environment. “All At Once” is Johnson’s contribution to initiating positive change in local communities. Participants in the campaign are non-profit organizations, environmental advocates and loyalty programs promoting the reduction of plastic use and sustainable food systems. In addition, music fans must reckon with the fact that there is no chance that his concerts could take place anywhere. By signing the contract for the implementation of the event, the artist has for years stipulated in the contract that the hosts of the place are obliged to use energy obtained from renewable sources, use composters and energy-efficient lighting, and to recycle more than half of the waste left after the event.
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt – I don’t think we need to present this gentleman’s profession. For many years, Brad has been active in the field of environmental protection and humanitarian affairs around the world. He has used his fame more than once to spark important debates on environmental policies and strategies. On Pitt’s long list of environmental efforts is Make It Right, which was originally dedicated to rebuilding environmentally friendly homes destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. Together with Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt founded the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation for social development, poverty eradication and environmental education in rural Cambodia.
But ecology, nature and care for the environment are not only actions taken by men. The involvement of women we know well from the big screen or the biggest theater or music scenes is just as great. So … we’re starting the presentation.
Emma Warson
We have written about this actress many times on the Exprimere_te blog, showing her to you as a person who consciously looks at the environment and the surrounding plastic and huge enterprises from a young age. Emma knows very well how to break her celebrity fame on educating fans about eco and bio. The actress promotes ecological fashion, among other things, at one of the Hollywood events she even appeared in a creation made of … plastic bottles. Eco fashion and supporting fair trade, supporting employees from the poorest corners of the world, are not the only “horse” of a phenomenal star. Her basic habits that she tries to infect others with are: consistent waste segregation, driving an electric car and limiting the purchase of water in plastic bottles.
Cate Blanchett
This talented actress lives in a house that is not connected to the power grid. On a daily basis, he urges employees of the Wharf Theater to reuse and recycle props and costumes. She was instrumental in the efforts to install a solar panel system and rainwater collection at the Sydney Theater Company, which is why this cultural institution gets 70 percent of its power from the solar installation. Blanchett is also the face of the “Who On Earth Cares” campaign to combat climate change.
In the Polish how business there is no shortage of actors or faces from the first covers of newspapers who do a lot for the environment.
Grażyna Wolszczak
She is a theater, film and television actress, and at the same time a co-founder of the Garnizon Sztuki Theater located in the very center of Warsaw. She certainly doesn’t have a lot of free time considering the number of responsibilities and roles she has. But she always finds time to fight for uncontaminated air! And she does it like a real lioness. First of all: in January 2019, it won a smog case against the State Treasury. Although – as she said herself – she caught the sun with her hoe, the District Court for Warszawa Śródmieście admitted her right: the State Treasury did not do enough to allow Poles to breathe clean air, because although it undertook various activities, it did too little and too late. As a result, over the last decade, the air condition has deteriorated significantly, which affects our health. Secondly: Wolszczak did not end this case with a court decision. She was also not satisfied with the compensation awarded by the court, because – although the money was large – it did not solve the issue of taking care of the environment by the state. A month after the announcement of the judgment – i.e. in March 2019 – she flew to Brussels, where during a parliamentary assembly session, Polska Wodorowa appealed to representatives of the largest energy, chemical and fuel companies to switch to specific actions for the protection of the environment and clean air.
Anna Dereszowska
Successful woman. Extremely busy and in demand theater, musical, film and television actress, as well as a singer. She cannot complain about boredom or the lack of interest in her by various labels, and yet she finds time to care for the planet. He cooperates with WWF – a non-governmental environmental organization that saves the most valuable natural places in over 100 countries on 6 continents and operates in accordance with the principle of “Thinking globally, act locally”. She was involved, inter alia, in WWF’s SOS for the World campaign focusing on activities that prevent the extinction of endangered species and illegal deforestation. Dereszowska also joined the action on palm oil, during which, together with other famous people, she tried to make people aware that we all have an influence on what happens to the Earth. If, for example, we make a good decision in the store and give up products containing palm oil, we will join people fighting to protect the Green Lungs of the Earth, i.e. tropical forests cut down for cultivation in Indonesia and Malaysia – which in turn will save the orangutans still living there.
Anna Dereszowska also took part in the WWF educational program “Friends of the panda”, during which she engaged in cooperation and education of the youngest citizens of this world – she taught children how to distinguish bird voices – it is important, because only by being interested in nature, we really understand how valuable and valuable it is. why it needs to be protected.
What can you do for the earth?
You can follow in the footsteps of the stars and generate less waste: in addition to going shopping with an eco-bag, avoid bottled water. Each of the stars mentioned by us encourages us to use more ecological solutions instead of buying water in disposable bottles that will litter the world for half a millennium: filter the tap water. This can be done with special jugs or fitted reusable filter bottles.
And one more thing: do not let anyone convince you that ecology is just a fashion that will pass any moment. This is a must, because if we don’t do something, our children will have to find a new planet for themselves.
