Black Friday, the triumph of consumerism

Black Friday

What emotions do you have when you hear the words “Black Friday”? Big sales, shopping madness, or maybe the crying of the planet and blind consumerism?

Nowadays it is not only Black Friday, but also Black weekend, Black week and Black month … What consequences for the environment and for ourselves compulsive activity can bring buying on the occasion of big discounts? The situation is not helped by the fact that Black Friday is a celebration of consumerism, celebrated before Christmas … of course, how else. After all, we have to shop before Christmas anyway – gifts, Christmas decorations and many other essentials that will soon go in angle of oblivion.

Why is Black Friday not the occasion of our lives?

Two key answers come to my mind right away that should make you think all who got carried away with the euphoria of shopping -20%, -50% and almost 100% (after all the seller does not have to earn money?;)).

Are they pulling our legs ?

Where did these serious words come from? It won’t be a great discovery if I talk about inflating prices. Whether You realize that many stores are already overcharging their products at the end of the summer to lower them on Black Friday. In this situation we are building in our heads a chance to get a given item or service at an extremely attractive price? Sounds unfair? Big business is wrong and never let yourself believe that the owners of large corporations do care how much money we going to spent. Let us not think they are willing to sacrifice their earnings for the sake of us poor customers who want to do some  savings before Christmas.

Of course, there are times when brands actually drive down product prices. They do not use at including our naivety. In such a situation, we must ask ourselves what is the real value of the thing we want to buy. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean the purchases you have to do because you really need to get it . However, I associate Black Friday with compulsive, random purchases that we often regret.

Here, I encourage you to take a rational approach to the matter, that is … I BUY because I NEED IT. Not I’m buying because it’s Black Friday. Marketing of the consumerism holiday attacks us from all sides.

You need a lot of strength not to fall for it. Remember that when shopping in this time, we join the pre-Christmas madness. It can get dangerous pace. What can you do for yourself on Black Friday? Bet on self-development! Spend those money On a  course or workshop that will delight you rather than on new top.

Annual environmental catastrophe

Black Friday and the pre-holiday period is the time of the year when the environment suffers even more than usually because of our choices. It has long been known that today we live fast and use things equally quick. Most of the purchases we make are things that will go out of use for the next year. This is mass production of garbage. Not to mention waste, such as parcels or shopping bags , in good scenario , those would be recycled.

Production of clothes or electronics that we are so happy to buy on Black Friday, it is the cost of thousands of tons of water used and increased by CO2 emissions (our access to shops, transport of products …). This all doesn’t sound great, does it? The good news is that a lot depends on us and our choices. The good of our planet is in our hands!

What can we do? First of all, avoid being approached and make rational decisions shopping. Ask yourself whether the thing you want to buy in a given situation is necessary.

Will you use it  for more than six months? Look for alternatives – maybe you can borrow it from a friend? Or maybe you can do it yourself? There are many opportunities , find your way to be more #eco!
